Around this time in Israel there is a special week called שבוע הספר/Book Week. All over Israel, books are being sold at a discount in order to encourage Israelis to read. Thus, we are celebrating שבוע הספר in school as well! Everyday there will be a special activity related to שבוע הספר!! We began the activities today, and the children went to the school library and discovered a whole section filled with books in Hebrew! They enjoyed browsing, reading, and sharing books. Additionally, we also made our own Hebrew library in the classroom. Then, in the classroom we read the story of האריה שאהב תות, The Lion who Loved Strawberries, a classic Israeli book.
SPECIAL HOMEWORK
Therefore, in honor of Book Week in Israel, we will be focusing on this book,
האריה שאהב תות. The children will receive a different part of the story each day. For tonight's homework, the children must read the first two pages, fill in the missing words, and draw the missing pictures. Finally, by the end of the week, the children will have gathered all the pages and will have their own books.
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
Additionally, I am looking for parents who would like to volunteer to come into class on Thursday, June 4th, from 1-2 pm, to read a book in Hebrew to a group of students. You can bring your own Hebrew book from home, or I am happy to give you one from our library. Any book in Hebrew is fine. Please email me if you are interested.
