In conjunction with our unit on measurement, the first graders enjoyed a read-aloud of the book Inch by Inch by Leo Lionni. In the book, an inchworm measures different birds. Yesterday, the first graders used their inchworm rulers to measure birds in class. Today, they drew their own animals and measured different parts of the animals' bodies. Then, they wrote about their measurements, using possessive nouns (for example, "elephant's trunk"), a grammar skill that we have been discussing in class. Come and check out our colorful bulletin board next time you're at BPY!
