Today the first graders continued their learning about one-room schoolhouses. They listened to a read-aloud of Hornbooks and Inkwells, a historical fiction book which tells the adventures of students in a 18th-century one-room schoolhouse. Then, they used photographs to research the materials that were available in a one-room schoolhouse, such as slates, inkwells, American flags, stoves, etc. Finally, the first graders worked collaboratively to make their own models of one-room schoolhouses using a variety of materials. The children were excited to share their models with their classmates during a "museum walk" around the classroom.
