1A: Writing Variations of The Little Red Hen

Today in writer's workshop, the first graders began drafting their own versions of The Little Red Hen.  As a class, we studied the beginning pages of two of the versions of the story that we had read last week (The Red Hen by Ed and Rebecca Emberly and The Little Red Hen Makes a Pizza by Philimon Sturges) and noticed elements of the authors' craft in each version, such as word choice and use of details.  Then, the students applied some of these techniques to their own writing as they drafted the beginnings of their own versions.  It is so exciting to see our first graders' fantastic writing!
